What is Model-Based Engineering? How can it help my organization?
Model-Based Engineering (MBE), a.k.a., Model-Driven Development (MDD), is an umbrella term that describes an approach to Software and Systems Engineering that:
  • emphasizes a system architecture model as the primary work artifact throughout the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • combines traditional Software and Systems Engineering best practices with rigorous visual modeling techniques
  • typically uses an open standard visual modeling language (e.g., UML 2, SysML, ArchiMate) as both an as an Architecture Description Language and a lingua franca to communicate among various stakeholders (e.g., Client, Business Analysts, Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, Project Managers, etc.) who need to understand MBE work products, such as conceptual architectures, requirements specifications, system analyses, system designs, network (deployment) architectures, and system architectures.
